Another, more educational route is to the Arboreto Luis Ceballos, an arboretum on the slopes of the Guadarrama where as many as 300 trees from every region in Spain have been planted for research and educational purposes. The hike takes about 1½ hours, both ways. Once heading west on C/ Carlos Ruíz, make a right on C/ Pinar and follow it up a short way to the trailhead, which is marked by a wooden post with a footprint symbol. Follow the trail up a short rise, pass a fountain and at the rock house turn left and follow the road until it breaks to the left and there pick up the trail again. You’ll see signs along the way.
